Baby Boomers, Brothers, and Blogs - Denise and I had the pleasure of spending this evening in one of the City of Sarasota's finest facilities, the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. The occasion was slightly more casual than the average trip to the Van Wezel, as it was a performance by the 70's-80's rock band The Doobie Brothers. As one born smack in the middle of the baby boom, the show for me was a ride in a time machine only better, because it wasn't just nostalgia, it was a night of great, fresh music and a lot of fun. I know I'm showing my age, but is anyone making music like that today?

But more to the point it was one of those evenings that reminded me how lucky we are to be living in this city, in this time. Along with all of the other things that make Sarasota unique, there is of course our cultural heritage. We have the visual arts, the Opera, the West Coast Symphony, the Sarasota Ballet, Circus Sarasota, our fine theaters, and many other things. But for tonight, may I just say, Long Live Rock and Roll!!

That was a great concert last night! There are so many great shows at the Van Wezel and I wonder why I do not do that more often. We are lucky in Sarasota and happy you decided to stay. I have heard the west really wanted you to take the job and it must be a hard decision, Vail is beautiful and many of us have second homes there. We also know that you had no choice in looking because you have a few commissioners that are not very good leaders in this organization. I do think they are learning and they will let you do the job that we all appreciate you are capable of. Never thought you would leave anyway.

Great blog about the concert and what makes this area interesting to live in. As the last blogger said, it is nice to know they let you have time be human down at the city once in awhile. Too bad they do not treat you or the other employees that way sometimes.

Did we hear there is a GAP Store coming to main street soon?

The Doobie Brothers are good. Can't wait for the man Billy Idol.
Now that is going to be great.
Halloween will be special this year. Break out the spandex and hair gel. Glad you stayed. We need your leadership and wit.

Tix at the Van are very expensive...perhaps that is why anonymous three doesn't go more often. I am lucky (!?) enough to be a student. Without the $10 rush tix, I wouldn't be able to afford 1/5 of my visits to the Van.

I attend a lot of the shows for the $10 last minute tickets. When you do not have a lot of cash there are ways to enjoy the things that go on in the city just like the "rich folks". Why does everyone look at the negative side instead of the good side. At least there is a way to enjoy this stuff and not a stone wall keeping everyone out. You just have to be creative and most of us Sarasota people are that.
