Tech Advice Requested! Given some of the limitations of the blog format, I'd like to make this a better tool for communication. For example, I would like for readers to be able to start a thread or ask me a question without having to go off-topic or wait for me to write about it first. So to those of you who are more net-savvy than I am (probably nearly everyone) what are your suggestions for migrating the format?

Just go back to some old posts. I suggested a discussion forum months ago so that threads wouldn't be lost. Maybe at http://groups.yahoo.com/ I think you should just find a web hosting service that offers a discussion forum as part of the basic hosting package. It's up to you whether to spend the $. Probably about $100 to $200 per year max. Probably moderated where you approve posts in advance. Otherwise, like most forums, you will soon be overrun with spam, obscenities and anonymous personal attacks. I don't think it should be associated with any commercial business or news organization, like the Herald. Maybe put a PayPal donation link so people can donate to underwrite the cost. Any excess could be donated to charity. (Any real charity except the Film Festival please.)

Thanks for the suggestions, I would like to pursue a better format. I suppose I'll defer action on that for a week or so...

A better model for a "PlaceBlog" can be found at http://InPratt.com which has a more natural interface with less jargon than most "Blogging" solutions. As a member of the development team for this model, we reviewed many alternatives but decided to build our own. We started with standard components (i.e. content types), included with an open source cms (Ez Publish) and modified them to suit our needs. We added a few new components such as our "E-Billboard" to allow our Members to make money by posting Stories (blogs). I encourage you to explore the site and take it for a spin.
